“Outrageous, heartwarming, wonderfully sensual…I loved it!”
—Jayne Anne Krentz

“For sheer fun, nobody beats Nobody’s Baby But Mine.”
—Detroit Free Press

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune writes, “Next to Tracy and Hepburn, no one does romantic comedy better than Susan Elizabeth Phillips.” For proof, you need to look no further than Nobody’s Baby But Mine. This classic comic love story from perennial New York Times bestseller Phillips unites a beautiful, brainy scientist desperate to be a mom with a brawny, smoking hot jock who, though handsome enough to father her child, is nowhere near as stupid as she wants her baby’s daddy to be. Emily Giffin, Jane Green, and Rachel Gibson fans take note: when it comes to delivering delightfully funny, supremely sexy contemporary women’s fiction, nobody but nobody is better than Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

Amazon.com Review
Physics professor Dr. Jane Darlington spends her 34th birthday in tears. She wants a baby, but not a husband. Where can she find an average or, preferably, stupid man? She decides that Cal Bonner, legendary quarterback for the Chicago Stars is perfect. Jane sets her plan into action and after some trail and error she succeeds. But the results are more than she bargained for when Cal discovers her duplicity. How can a football player with an interfering family and a nerdy professor who has never known family love ever fall in love? With lots of honesty, understanding and a whole lot of humor. Don't miss this one! It's filled with engaging characters, laughs galore and a feel-good ending. If you enjoy it as much as I did, try Phillips's Heaven, Texas.

From Library Journal
Lonely, single, and 34, brainy physicist Jane Darlington is determined to have a baby?even if she has to pretend to be a hooker (and a "birthday present" for football star Cal Bonner) to do it. She doesn't expect, however, that her quarterback is a whole lot smarter than Jane had hoped, definitely more honorable than she had expected, and simply won't take no for an answer. Although the initial premise (while funny) is a stretch, the protagonists are strong and appealing and draw the readers into a sensual, heartwarming story that is graced with some interesting secondary characters, including a savvy backwoods grandmother with ideas of her own. Phillips (Kiss an Angel, Avon, 1996) lives in the Chicago area.

Cute
By Amy L. Fortner
This book came recommended from a book club friend. It was a cute read. I liked the family story and the subtle humor. It never tried too hard. There were a couple of problems with it: first, she skips over one month of their relationship where they apparently grew closer but as a reader you don't experience that so the rest of the relationship seems harder to buy into. Second, the story jumps around between characters but there is nothing noting the change. In one paragraph she is writing about the main characters and in the very next paragraph it jumps to a supporting character storyline. It would have helped to have some type of indication of the switch. Some books use symbols separating the paragraphs to signal a change. Overall, I liked the characters and thought she did a good job with character development.

Must Read!
By Rebecca Herman
This was my first book I ever read by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and it hooked me on her writing for life. I really love that her female characters are strong, but flawed. The male characters usually have forceful, domineering personalities that are brought to heel by the love of a good woman. Dr. Bonner is a smart funny woman who doesn't necessarily want a man but finds herself hooked up to the most desired bachelor in Chicago. I feel like the characters are much more real, I can picture them right here in my hometown so I can really relate to them. I think my favorite is Annie - who is still chasing people off her porch with a shotgun well into her 80's - living life on her terms. I have read this book many times and it still makes me smile.

A favorite of mine
By Amazon Customer
I began reading Susan Elizabeth Phillips over ten years ago and this was the first book of hers I read. I fell in love instantly; with Jane and all the other eccentric characters (especially Annie). The dynamic between Cal and Jane is humorous and believable (although how they meet may not be entirely realistic). The "pranks" between the characters made me crave more and I was laughing so hard I nearly cried. My only criticism is that I wish Susan Elizabeth Phillips had more books...because I've read them all. Looking forward to her next one.
