About the Author
Diann Thornley Read is the author of The Sergey Chronicles, a military science fiction trilogy. The Sergey Chronicles is the story of a military family caught at the center of politics and war in an interstellar alliance.
She currently is working on Running from the Gods, the first book in a young adult military space fantasy series called The Seventh Shaman.
Diann served for 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, a career that included tours of duty in South Korea, Bosnia, and Iraq, and that indelibly influenced the stories she tells. She learned her craft from such mentors as Orson Scott Card, C.J. Cherryh, Elizabeth Moon, and David Farland, and is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
She is married to NASA scientist and martial artist Jon Read. They live in Houston, Texas.

Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Thornley

I've always loved science fiction, but there came a point where I simply gave up. More and more each year, the new authors weren't doing it for me. Too concerned with being artsy, hip, and/or "relevant," whatever that means anymore.
Then came Diann Thornley.
First off, she's a master storyteller. The series grabs both our attention and our heartstrings from the very first chapter. Cliffhangers and unexpected twists abound.
But wait, there's more. Thornley may be the first science fiction writer since Heinlein who knows her military. The action is not only gripping, it's one thousand percent authentic.
And yet, unlike Heinlein, Thornley has heart. The action - and there is plenty of it - never neglects the human dimension. Which, for all its otherworldly setting, makes the Sergey Chronicles come to vivid, three-dimensional life.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot lines here, because this is one of those rare books that grips you from the start and never lets go, the kind that is a delight to enter blindly and let it carry you along.

Spherzah dismissed!

This series has been an amazing ride from start to finish. Never before have I read an author who has kept you on the edge of your seat till the very last chapter. Diann's depth in the military part of military sci-fi goes beyond what authors of the like put out even today. She has put her skills learned in the armed forces into every corner you read. It felt as you were sitting in the room listening to Lujan and company rattle off debriefs. Only an author who has put her all into each chapter could accomplish a triumph like Read's Surgey Chronicles.

Loved for many years

I've owned this series for many years and have re-read it until the covers fell off and the paper got weird from reading in the bathtub. I wish this author had more titles, I would buy them all! She's able to intersect military, politics, family, coming of age, trauma and healing, what it means to be a good person in times of battle along with really wonderful world building. Please buy her books, maybe if she gets a bunch of positive feedback she'll write more in this universe and about these characters who have become my old friends.
