Jeff Runyan: The Man of the New Evangelization

I'll be honest...I didn't read the entire book. It's not that it wasn't good, it's just that I now know my vocation is to ponder the first chapter in my heart for the rest of my earthly days. Who is this Jeff Runyan? Why aren't there pictures of him with a side part and a polo tucked into khaki pants? Why were drum circles a part of his freshman orientation? It will take a lifetime of meditation to sufficiently explore these mysteries.

I know what you're thinking: Can anything good come from Greeley? The answer is (most emphatically) YES. Runyan's brave stand against an undergrad school newspaper can only be likened to the early Christians in the coliseum. I was on the edge of my seat as I read of other students hurling violent accusations at him, such as "you are Catholic, which means you are not Muslim" and "I'm a sophomore liberal arts major, so let me tell you how systematic theology works". Runyan's eloquent response puts St. Augustine to shame.

About the Author
South African born visionary artist, Bonny Hut, studied Fine Art and Graphic Design in Durban. She ran an art school and a gallery in Melbourne, Australia, where she now lives. Since a small child, Bonny has been an avid truth seeker and has always contemplated the great questions in life. This has taken her on a journey embracing many religions, meta-physics, quantum-physics, ether- physics, philosophy, different spiritual practices and conspiracy research. This journey of trying to understand the matrix, the human experience and life in general is reflected in her work and writing.

Visionary Art Treasure Trove

Devotees and students of Visionary Art would be well advised to pick this up. Bonny Hut is right up there with any contemporary Visionary Artist.

The wide range of stunning works contained within this book are complemented by poetry and notes penned by the artist that give rare insight into the process of creation. Various works are reproduced as a series of prints taken at progressive stages of development, again, boldly opening up the artistic process for all to see.

Bonny Hut may not be as well known as Alex Grey or Salvador Dali, but when you cast your eye through this book you get the idea that she soon will be.

What sets Bonny most apart from others in the Visionary Art genre is the wide range of visual elements and influences that she skillfully merges together, sometimes all in the one painting! In this volume you will see influences including modern day South Africa, Ancient Egypt, sacred geometry, New Age (David Icke shows up in one painting), domestic cats, still life, military, Wicca, Atlantis, inter-galactic travel and more...

If you're curious, I would definitely give this the benefit of the doubt and order a copy. You won't be disappointed.

This book is a beautifully crafted masterpiece. Bonny Hut takes you on an enchanted exploration through an expansive, emotional paradigm with thought provoking prose and phenomenal paintings. The reader reaches a place where they are moved to express their inner visions for humanity.

Fascinating

The artwork is very unusual. I love it. The artists use of color is amazingly beautiful. It takes time to study each piece of art to fully appreciate each piece. Each time you view a piece, you'll discover something else. The work is so individual, I have no doubts that you haven't viewed anything like it. The poetry is good, but for me, the art work is what moved me. Take a look at this and be amazed.

Essential reading for the queer community.

Body image has always been a hot topic in the queer community, but has never been expressed so eloquently as in this book. Looking Queer is packed with first person accounts of all sorts of body image issues: from lesbians with eating disorders who are shunned from the lesbian community for being so body-oriented, to disabled gay men who can't find a place in the image-conscious gay dating scene, to transsexuals recounting the journey they've been through to get to where they are now, to intergendered people who proudly refer to themselves as "mythical creatures." Every single story in this anthology touched me deeply. In this increasingly lookist world, this book is a must-read of the first degree.

This Is Fiction, But...

This is a scary, scary book. It is slightly dated in terms of technology, but it deals with a frightening situation that is easily envisioned today. Written in 1988 when the Soviets were yet a force to be reckoned with, it could still easily happen now, with an unnamed Arab group playing the Soviet role. After all, who could believe that crazy people would attack the US proper with our own jetliners?
This tale is created from a combination of spy vs spy vs beautiful spy, fast-moving high-tech action, and the Israelis finally having had enough. This leads to the brink of world war, as the Israelis plan to bomb an Iraqi nuclear reactor protected by secret missle sites. Our hero must avert total disaster in the best Ludlam-esque manner, while of course becoming involved with the lovely but secretive sabra and dealing with the "is he, is he not" double agent.
Although much of the weapons and aircraft are from the last generation of military technology, the author as a former WWII navigator writes convincing battle scenes. The fact that it is set in a Middle East aflame with hatred on all sides is what makes it so timely - with Sharon in the lead, I can easily believe that Operation Fiery Furnace could take place any day now, with opposition from Hussein, supported by bin Laden's followers.
This is fiction, but just barely.
