I could've written this book better. It was repetitive with plenty of grammar mistakes and bad spelling throughout. Also, contradictory when the author mentioned using gel over paste or liquid food coloring. I don't believe anyone checked this for editing before putting out to the public. I actually could've gotten just as much, if not more, information from YouTube. Sorry to be so harsh, but this is my opinion.

David Tully used to teach at New York University, where he got his PhD in Literature (so that’s “Doctor Tully,” if you please), then lived in Los Angeles for several years, where he worked as Head of Development for Oscar-winner Volker Engel at Unchartered Territory, before he moved to Munich, where he worked as a scriptwriter for TV and features, and headwriter for series. He then moved to the United Arab Emirates, where the script for his supernatural thriller DJINN attracted horror legend Tobe Hooper to come to Dubai and direct this first international Arab horror movie. David's critical biography TERRY SOUTHERN AND THE AMERICAN GROTESQUE was published in 2010, and aside from being a script writer (whose projects include the upcoming CASTING THE RUNES, starring Simon Pegg and directed by Joe Dante) and the creative mastermind at Shivertown Road Films, he also now works as a novelist.

Lee Goldberg is a two-time Edgar and Shamus Award finalist who has written and produced scores of highly successful network television series, including Diagnosis Murder, SeaQuest, Hunter, Martial Law, Monk, and The Glades. Sundown, You Better Take Care...

From the opening sentence, "On the morning of the day that Matt Cahill decided to murder an entire town, he was feeling kind of blue." to the exciting end - The Dead Man #15: The Killing Floor by David Tully delivers the goods! The town being Sundown in the Adirondack Mountains.
There's a lot going on in this book, from environmental protesting about hydro-fracking back to the mystery surrounding the first American Settlement, Roanoke...And the 1st European born on American soil...
There's history and so much more going on here, woven seamlessly throughout! (Hard to believe this is Mr. Tully's 1st Novel!)
And as Lee Goldberg said himself on my last review: Going Black To Indiana... The Black Death (Dead Man #14) - " If you're a Mr. Dark fan, you're going to LOVE the next one, The Killing Floor (Dead Man #15). Mr. Dark plays a very big role in that one."
And he's true to his word - Mr. Dark is all over this one and we learn quite a bit more about what he is and his agenda!

Perfection!

Read this book in one afternoon and was totally rapt. I love the link between current fears re: the environment and ancient evils. The pacing, imagery, and dialogue are impeccable. In addition to reading Colson Whitehead's Zone One recently, I've been getting caught up on the Walking Dead. So needless to say, I've been thinking a lot about zombies lately and how the genre is expressing all sorts of contemporary anxieties about building or maintaining civilizations in the face of overwhelming threat or "terror," but this book brings up a slew of other cool connections that I hadn't even considered. I particularly like how the violence of the environment mirrors and stokes the violence of the townspeople and the anti-fracking contingent, but the underlying evil/zombificataion nullifies those differences. Plus, it is just a total page turner and pleasure to read.

Got hooked on these books. They entertain and for the most part the good guy wins. Fast read. The story moves along and are very visual. Not for the young reader. I will continue to purchase books in this seriers.

Entertaining YA Paranormal Romance/Mystery

Awakening was an entertaining read, however, I could have done with the constant bashing of the Twilight series. A Series, I might add, that I actually liked better than this book. Don't get me wrong, I thought that this story was pretty good but I think that it just tacky for one author to bash another and it made me respect Ms. Lee just a little less.

I had just finished reading Book 3 in Lee's Wicked Witch of the Midwest series, which was pretty good, and decided to check out her other titles. I rarely read YA books anymore (too tame), however, after I read the synopsis for this book and noted the supernatural elements I decided to give it a shot. The plot isn't overly original,(Mythos Academy is better) but it was engaging, the pacing is good, I liked the main character Zoe, and I liked the setting, as well as, the supernatural beings and witches. There's a little mystery, humor, a little romance, smoking hot werewolves and a scrumptious vampires (I'm a vampire girl). The character development could have been better but so far I have found this complaint true of every book that I've read by Ms. Lee. Nevertheless, I found the story entertaining enough that I plan to read the next book in the series.

Under amazon's rating system 3 stars means "It's ok" and since I thought that it was okay I gave it 3 stars.

Lastly, I have to address the comment, by one reviewer, that the main character was a slut. Unless my understanding of the definition of the word is incorrect, I don't think that a young women who has sex with her boyfriend of 4 years and comments on the "hotness" of a couple of other guys but doesn't sleep with them constitutes a "slut." Come on, if one is going to make an observation or comment about a book and/or character it should at least be accurate.

Good Grief! Not Her Best...

I am so glad that I have read all of Amanda M. Lee's other books before I read these two books because if this series had been the first one of hers that I had picked up to read, this would have certainly been my last. Yes, ladies and gents, this is trash. There are numerous grammatical, syntax and editing errors through out the book. For example, the words astronomy and astrology are used interchangeably throughout both books. The quality is horrible, it's almost as if the author main-lined caffeine over a long weekend and vomited the book directly from her head right to Amazon. I read books not just for the story but also for the use of words as an art form. These two books are an insult to readers and to the author's fan base. As others have said, the main character has no redeeming qualities and the first person point of view does nothing to improve the glacial pace of the book. There are several glaring loose ends that are left dangling and really put me off. These loose ends are never really resolved in the sequels to date, by the way. My recommendation is that both books be pulled and edited heavily. For those of you that read this, I do encourage you to read her other books / series. They are quite good (when compared to these two).

Fun that's not so 101

Lee's written a highly entertaining and very funny mystery about a Zoe Lake, a freshman who soon discovers her college career is going to be more than keggers, dating drama, and exams. Along with man trouble and crazy roommates, Zoe is dealing with supernatural foes and forces. If you're a fan of Buffy, snark or fantasy/horror, you'll love this.
